Botanic Name:
Iris fernaldii
Common Name:
Fernald's Iris
Size: 1'h x 2'w
Sun: Pt. shd
H20: Summer dry
Description:
Fernald's Iris has a graceful habit, with very slender blue-green leaves and lovely cream colored blossoms with light veining. Native to dry woods throughout the Bay Area, it is commonly seen growing in the shade of oaks along Skyline and the eastern slopes of the Peninsula hills. If you are gardening under oaks, we recommend this species both for its beauty and because it is probably the species that grew there originally. Light shade to 1/2 day sun; little or no water. Beautiful with some of its companions in nature, Hound's Tongue, Wood Fern, and Yerba Buena.
