Botanic Name:
Salvia leucophylla 'Point Sal'
Common Name:
Purple Sage
Size: 3'h x 6'w
Sun: sun
H20: occ.H2O/dry
Description:
This purple sage is a dense, wide-spreading shrub, great for a dry bed or for erosion control. It reaches 3 to 4 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. In May and June the stems are covered with lavender pink flowers in whorled clusters. An excellent fast spreading plant for a dry sunny slope, it can grow 4 feet in a single year. Like the other shrubby sages, a late summer pruning will produce a better looking, longer lived plant. Deer resistant. Bees and hummingbirds are attracted to its flowers, while other songbirds feed off its nutritious seed.
