Botanic Name:
Cerastium arvense
Common Name:
Meadow Chickweed
Size: 6"h x 1'w
Sun: Shd-pt. shd
H20: Summer dry
Description:
Related to the well-known Snow in Summer, this native species shares its very low growth habit and pure white flowers, but the leaves are bright green rather than gray. A charming little perennial that thrives along the immediate coast, although it will do fine inland given a little shade, extra water and good drainage. It spreads underground, but not aggressively, making it well suited to planting among flagstones or other areas where its low creeping habit is appreciated. Nice as part of a meadow, rock, or seashore garden, combined with other small perennials or grasses.
