Description:
Large conifer (70'-250') which grows in most of the Pacific Northwest and in California as far south as Monterey Co. Tolerates most soils with good drainage. Takes sun or shade. Pyramidal form when young, densely set soft needles and fresh pine scent made it the original Christmas tree. Wine red buds formed in winter open to light green growth in spring; adding to this already beautiful tree's charm. Douglas Fir tolerates wind and drought and is easy to garden under.
