Nassella pulchra
Common Name:
Purple Needle Grass
Size: 2'h x 2'w
Sun: sun-pt. shd
H20: occ.H2O/dry
Description:
A medium sized grass that was once a dominant species of California prairies, Purple Needle Grass has slender foliage that forms a graceful clump 1 foot tall and wide, with beautiful airy flowers and seedheads that reach to 3 feet tall. Rather unremarkable as a lone specimen, this grasses' beauty reveals itself in a mass. When the clumps of foliage create a pattern on the land, and the flowers all blow together in the wind, we catch a glimpse of the California that was. Very adaptable to coastal or inland gardens, water or drought, clay or sandy soil. Do provide sun.
