This local shrub is a show-stopper when it blooms in late spring. Then it is covered with pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers. It grows from 3 to 5 ft. tall, and is found in foothill and chaparral areas from Ventura to Lake Counties including the Sierra foothills. It takes full or part sun, occasional water, and is deer resistant. Can defoliate as a response to prolonged hot, dry summer, if kept dry. It will green up again when the rainy season comes.
