Description:
The Red Elderberry will be found growing in moist woods and open flats in coastal places from the San Francisco Bay area to the western Klamath Ranges. Clusters of cream colored flowers are arranged in a dome-shaped inflorescence and bloom midspring. Bright red berries ripen during summer, but they are inedible. Its companions in the wild are Spice Bush and Western Azalea. Locally you can see it growing along Skyline with Ceanothus and Baccharis.
