The Marsh Lupine is found along the California coast in moist areas and bogs, from full sun to light shade. It is an easy to grow herbaceous perennial producing 18" mounds of dark green foliage topped with glorious 12" spikes of purple fragrant flowers in May and June. As its habitat would suggest, regular water is needed through the flowering season. It will go dormant soon after, and will take dry soil during that period, and reemerge bigger with the winter rains. Cut to the ground after it withers for a neater appearance.
