Description:
This member of the Lamiaceae or Mint family is native to chaparral, woodland and forest habitats in mountainous regions in the southern portion of California. It grows from a creeping rootstock and eventually creates sizable colonies. It must have excellent drainage.The large tubular red-orange flowers are beautifully offset by green to chocolate bracts and bloom from June to August attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. This is a good choice for a rock garden or a container. Seldom available.
